StartCast is a series documenting Shawn’s adventures in both learning to podcast and bootstrapping a startup. In the inaugural episode of StartCast, Shawn introduces the concept and inspiration behind StartCast, his background and a bit about the week gone by. Since this is a podcast about learning how to podcast, no post production was performed on the audio and we find out it’s a pretty rough start. For next week, learn about post production!
An essential part of this project is the production of a podcast. I intended to do some recording for a different project in late 2013 and without doing very much research purchased a CAD U37 USB Studio Condenser Recording Microphone. The advice I had read said that novices should start with a condenser mic vs. a dynamic mic because of the “huge” price differential. Having spent a fair amount of time researching the subject, I’ve found this to simply be untrue. So, I spent a lot more time doing my research and just purchased a new mic. Here’s what I learned.
What better day to begin a new project than an hour or so after midnight on New Year’s Day. I’ll keep this brief for the moment. If you want the general gist, check out our about page. For now, let me say that undertaking this adventure has been something I’ve been thinking about for years. I never had an idea I could sink my teeth into until February of last year. I hesitated last year thinking I would let my idea go. That it would be a passing thought. Since I haven’t stopped thinking about it in the preceding nine months, now is the time to move things forward.
The first episode of StartCast will be recorded Sunday and I will be doing my best to keep to a weekly schedule. Stay tuned.
